18K Antique French Belle Epoque Vinaigrette Locket, Guilloche Engine Turned Floral Victorian Pendant

This rare beauty is known as a "vinaigrette" locket. Common in the 19th century, the locket would often contain a piece of scented cloth tucked carefully into the pierced gallery partition to revive the wearer in case of fainting or to mask unpleasant odors. Beautifully decorated, the locket faces feature engine turned border with a floral center. The locket is small enough to be worn on a chain or as a charm and closes very well. It is crafted from high quality 18k gold; as no hallmark remains it has been acid tested in multiple locations to confirm purity. It would make a lovely addition to any collection.
