These breathtaking antique French amethyst pendant earrings were created in the second half of the 19th century and feature a large oval amethyst embedded with a gold flower and seed pearl surrounded by a halo of crown prongs. They are affixed to a top round amethyst sleeper which is also embedded with a natural seed earl. Not detachable, the bottom hangs beautifully from the top and is fixed securely. They are made in the Archaeological Revival style popular from approximately 1860-1880. They retain the original fishhook backing and are hallmarked with an eagle head, visible in photo nine.
CONDITION NOTES:
While breathtaking, the earrings have lived a full life and do wear signs of age and use. Most noticeable is wear to the bottom prongs on one pair of earrings, visible in photo ten. The crown is still intact in all prongs save one, so they could potentially be rebuilt if it bothers you, but they are very securely held by the remaining prongs so you will not lose the amethyst. There is also a solder repair to one earring in the area where the pendant drop meets the sleeper portion, done with tin and also visible in photo ten. The amethysts have wear normal for age and use. Nothing serious but light scratches to the facets not visible when worn. The earrings have recently had the flower portions re-fixed so that they are stable and not in danger of falling out.
