18K Gold Belle Epoque Guilloche Enameled French Locket with Laurel Wreath Details c. 1900
18K Gold Belle Epoque Guilloche Enameled French Locket with Laurel Wreath Details c. 1900
I'm so pleased to offer this exceptional antique locket crafted in the Belle Epoque style around 1910. This breathtaking round pendant boasts finely decorated laurel wreath chasing which frames translucent blue enamel over meticulous engine turned engraving.
A delicate process, enamel is made by fusing powdered glass to metal surfaces through a high-temperature firing process. The intense heat melts the glass powder, allowing it to adhere to the metal and form a smooth, glossy coating; the vitreous glass shimmers beautifully in the light, changing in color from a deep turquoise to a royal blue. The locket opens from the top, typical of the period, to reveal a double locket display. A testament to exquisite craftsmanship, this locket promises to captivate admirers with its timeless charm and unparalleled allure.
CONDITION NOTES:
The enameling is in excellent antique condition and the hinge is secure. The locket closes firmly. The back has dents consistent with age and use. You'll need to treat this locket with care as the enameling will need to be protected from any dings or scrapes. The original glass frames are gone but a photo can be cut to size and slid inside the "pocket" where the frame used to be held in place.
