It is rare to know the provenance of pieces of this type since often they have changed hands many times and their stories get lost to time. I'm lucky enough to be able to know the backstory of this beautiful piece. Belonging to an upper middle class woman from the North of France who longed to feel the sweet sun of the French Riviera, she sold all of her favorite jewels to fund a move to the seaside, save for her favorite, this beautiful filigree necklace. It kept her company while she swanned around the beaches and casinos of Monaco, Nice, and Cannes while she looked effortlessly glamorous in this special gem. An heirloom piece that she kept for her great-granddaughter, who would rather it be used and worn by someone who falls in love with it than see it sitting in a drawer. Made by a talented goldsmith, it features three hallmarks on the closure, including an eagle head which guarantees at least 18k gold purity. Made to drape luxuriously across the collarbone, it is known as a 'drapery' necklace in France. The links are in excellent condition and feature time consuming and delicate millegrain beaded work. At some point in time the spring ring was replaced and is marked "750" indicating that it is also 18k gold.
