18k Gold Victorian Pendant Locket with Hinged Glass Partition, Antique French Gold Locket

Guarding secrets preciously for well over one hundred years, this exquisite French locket features details which exemplify the skill and precision of the Victorian Era. The central oval has an applied gold scroll design which is embedded with three fine pearls, in excellent condition. The top and bottom of the piece are adorned with symmetrical, scrolled embellishments. Heavy and luxurious, the locket closes with a satisfying snap and features a central hinged beveled glass which can be used to store a sentimental memento. There is a small gap as the two sides of the locket (see photo nine) do not touch but the locket is secure and will not open when worn. These hinged glass partitions were often used as a reliquary to store a special photo or memory to remember a loved on gone before. The glass partition now often moves with the opening face so I recommend inserting something, such as a photo, which will not fall out. A sentimental piece that has been preciously kept through the ages. The locket was clearly worn frequently as the bail of the locket bears some wear from the chain. All defects are visible in photos and act as a testament to the history of the piece. A breathtaking locket which makes a thoughtful gift for the antique lover in your life, or to treat yourself.
