18K Gold Victorian Torpedo Earrings, Antique French Provincial Earrings, Victorian Dangle Earrings, XIX century Jewelry
18K Gold Victorian Torpedo Earrings, Antique French Provincial Earrings, Victorian Dangle Earrings, XIX century Jewelry
These beautiful regional earrings were common in the French provinces of Normandy, Auvergne, Provence, and Vendee in the 18th and 19th centuries. Made of stamped 18k Gold, very few survived to the present. Although they were once very common they were too expensive and difficult to repair, thus the vast majority have been broken, lost, or melted down to make new jewelry. Featuring long, hollow tassels with a concave face affixed to a lever-back ball earring they are classic and timeless. As they are light and very old they do feature signs of wear and age, including some small dents which have been photographed. Once widespread, French regional jewels have become very hard to come by and these are a lovely example of a lost and forgotten art which will certainly get even more difficult to find with time.
