35" Antique Victorian Niello Silver Chain with Rose Gold Vermeil, Belle Epoque Long Niello Chain with Dog Clip Clasp

This lovely silver niello watch chain is in excellent condition. Niello is a technique in which a material, often silver, is engraved and filled with a mixture of sulfur, copper, silver, and lead. After being fired in a kiln the niello mixture melts and fills in the crevices, leaving a lovely matte design. Featuring an adapted figaro design, it is more refined and delicate than most of the niello watch chains I've come across, making it an impressive yet understated piece. The length is also impressive as it is almost double the length of most of the chains I've come across, measuring an impressive 35 inches long! Niello is stronger and more durable than enamel and holds up very well. The niello on this piece is in excellent condition with many years left of use and the links have been inspected and are all very strong. The connecting links are washed in rose gold vermeil, making a lovely contrast and showing a classic and beautiful design element of the era. The dog clip clasp is also in great shape with good alignment and tension. The only condition note is that there are some darkened and tarnished areas on the chain from time. I've left it as often clients like the original patina and as it adds an authenticity and originality to the piece. It would make a lovely and coveted addition to your collection.
