Antique 18K Flat Cut Citrine Foiled Regional Jewelry Ring

This unique regional jewel features a flat cut oval citrine in a closed, domed setting from the 19th century. This type of jewel was crafted in the Perpignan region of France and is known as a Catalan Brazil. The ring head measures 1.1 cm x 0.8 cm and the band is an accessible size 54 FR or 7 US. The hallmark on the ring was removed during re-sizing but the ring was sold to me by a reputable auction house as 18k solid gold which has been confirmed by discrete acid testing in several places.
CONDITION NOTES:
It is necessary to keep the ring away from water as this can damage the foiling. This is especially true as the domed back has some denting and a fissure which opens into the interior. It looks like some water already got into the foiling at some point and caused cloudiness to the bottom quarter of the ring but it adds visual interest and is part of the history of the piece. The ring has also been re-seized at some point as you can see where the band has been cut at the sides and then soldered to make it larger. It remains very eye catching and unique.
