Antique 18K Gold and Sapphire Paste Filigree Drapery Necklace, Art Nouveau French Filigree Chain Necklace

Luxurious and beautifully worked, this Edwardian necklace was entirely hand crafted by a renowned Parisian goldsmith, circa 1900. It is amazing to think of each small piece of gold being delicately wrought and then soldered together to create this masterpiece. Once adorning the neck of a very fashionable Parisian high society woman many moons ago, it would now make the perfect accent necklace for a Roaring 20s themed wedding or party. This drapery features delicate seven plaques of filigree work separated by pear shaped, bezel set sapphire paste stones. Using one of my favorite dramatic elements in old necklaces, this piece even has an additional security chain at the neck with a very subtle two tone gold effect as the safety chain and spring ring are a rosier gold than the yellow gold chain. A lover of all drapery necklaces, I find this one particularly lovely due to the overabundance of details in each individual link. It is a head-turning piece, elegant and timeless, that is the very definition of French chic.

CONDITION NOTES:
The necklace is known as a 'ras du cou' as it skims the collar bone below the neckline like a choker necklace. The links have been inspected and are strong and in good condition while the main spring ring is an replacement with good tension and alignment. There is no missing filigree and the sapphire paste stones are well secured.
