Antique 18K Gold and Silver Pietra Dura Sentimental Locket

This pretty and unique pietra dura locket features an intricate stone mosaic, popular in Victorian jewelry, particularly during the mid to late 19th century. It originated in Italy and was often used for as a souvenir for wealthy English taking their "Grand Tour" around the continent. Featuring a bouquet of flowers including forget-me-nots and peonies, the locket is large enough to make an impression but flat enough to wear comfortably. The back contains an 800 silver frame which can be opened to store a photo or precious memory while the bail is hallmarked with an owl for 18k solid gold. Today, Victorian pietra dura jewelry is a prized collector's item, admired for its craftsmanship and historical significance.

CONDITION NOTES:
The locket is in good condition with light micro-scratches consistent with age. The closure is secure and despite the lockets age it closes with a satisfying 'click'. It is hallmarked with an owl on the bail.
