Antique 18K Gold Art Nouveau Ivy Round Locket, French Pendant c. 1900

Breathtakingly beautiful, this round Art Nouveau has been crafted from 18K gold and embellished with etched and applied green gold ivy leaves. As with many antique pieces, there remains a hidden symbolism with the choice of ivy as a motif. The allure lies in the ivy's romantic symbolism, woven into its tendrils that lovingly embrace a wall. In France, this symbolism finds expression in the phrase "Je m'attache ou je meurs," which can be poetically translated as "I will cling to you or I will die."The locket is discreet enough to be used for every day wear and well-crafted enough that it is sure to turn heads.

CONDITION NOTES:
The top of the locket has been reinforced as it was wearing thin through use. A new bail has also been attached which is thin and fine, matching the locket itself. The locket closes very securely but is a bit difficult to pry open as it fits together so well. Delicately slide a fingernail into the groove on the side to open. It would be perfect for storing a special photo or memento as there would be no risk of losing a keepsake. There are light dents and micro-scratches consistent with age and use.
