Antique 18K Gold Belle Epoque Onyx Drop Earrings of French Origin

These breathtaking antique French onyx pendant earrings were created in the Napoleon III period. They feature a sleeper top and a pendant bottom, with a central round onyx. Not detachable, the bottom features a circular frame, which is accented with decorative scroll work and a hanging round onyx embedded with a star and seed pearl. The pendant bottom hangs beautifully from the top and is fixed securely. The earrings retain the original fishhook backing and are hallmarked with an eagle head. They are a lovely reminder of the skill and craftsmanship of the era.

CONDITION NOTES:
While breathtaking, the earrings have lived a full life and do wear signs of age and use. A plug was used to back the onyx originally to secure them in place. This has been lost on one earring but not the second. Regardless, the onyx is securely held by the prongs and is well fixed. There is also an embellishment on the gold pendant bottom frame which is loose and moves on both pairs of earrings when touched, but they are still held securely and not in danger of falling out.
