This lovely small Victorian locket features an intricate and unique motif featuring 18k solid gold interspersed with stripes of black enamel. The two sides are identical and are centered with a buckle. Buckles were typically used in Victorian jewelry to symbolize eternal love, friendship, and commitment. It conveyed a lasting bond and unity, especially in engagement and wedding pieces. In mourning jewelry, buckles signified remembrance and enduring memories. Beyond symbolism, buckles enhanced aesthetics, becoming a fashionable motif. The locket opens to reveal a compartment for sentimental notes, a lock of hair, or a photo.

CONDITION NOTES:
The locket closes very well with a satisfying snap. It has a few small areas of enamel loss, visible in photos. The locket is small and comfortable. Check measurements as we've zoomed in to capture the details more clearly. Typical of the period, there is no glass to protect a photo but when cut to size photos can be slide into the side compartments without issue.
