Antique 18K Gold, Silver, and Glass Paste Victorian Earrings, c. 1900

Antique 18K Gold, Silver, and Glass Paste Victorian Earrings, c. 1900

These simple and timeless 18k gold French dormeuse earrings are from the early 1900s and feature a lever-back closure system with large old mine cut paste stones, topped with smaller white paste stones. Paste is a leaded glass cut by hand to imitate diamonds and commonly used in the Victorian period. They are held securely in a silver setting. Silver was often used in the early 20th century to reflect the light of diamonds or other white stones to make them appear larger. These beauties shine very well and have very little facet wear despite their age.

Hallmarked with an eagle head by the Paris assay office. The lever back closure is in good condition with a strong hinge. The drop is not very long but still fit comfortably on my ears when I tested them
