Antique 18K Solid Gold and Enamel Victorian Mourning Locket with Seed Pearls
Antique 18K Solid Gold and Enamel Victorian Mourning Locket with Seed Pearls
Sweetly sentimental, this antique mourning locket was created in the late 1800s to store a token of those gone before. On the front a forget-me-not flower is beautifully inlaid into black enamel and surrounded by small seed pearls. Victorians loved symbolism and the pearls were representative of tears while the forget-me-not flower urged the wearer to remember their loved one. The back is beautifully engraved with an empty cartouche that could be personalized with initials. The frame of the locket is 18k gold with a removable original glass frame which can be used to store a photo. The locket closes very well with a strong hinge.
CONDITION NOTES:
The locket is in very good condition for age. There looks to have been one pearl replaced as it's a slightly lighter white than the others. It's not obvious or visible when worn and it's necessary to look closely to notice.
