These exquisite earrings are from the Napoleon III period, circa 1860. Elegant and practical, they feature a swan neck earring back which has a sleeper portion with a matching pendant drop portion. The addition of the swan neck makes them easier to handle than many other earrings of this time period which have hinged sleepers on top. The pendant bottoms are a lovely mirror to the top. They feature a raised oval, centered with a seed pearl held securely in a prong setting. There is beautiful detailing all around the top is also set with a raised seed pearl and beautiful embellishments. The top and bottom are fixed securely so they will not come apart. They are an excellent addition to any collection.
CONDITION NOTES:
The earrings are in excellent antique condition with light micro scratches to the gold but nothing noticeable when worn or that takes away from their charm. One of the swan necks is a replacement and is a noticeably yellower gold color than the rosy gold of the rest of the earrings. The pearls have also shrunk with age, most visible in the video. It adds a certain charm to the piece and is a testament to their history. They are hallmarked with an eagle head on the hook of the swan neck, visible in photo ten, and at the top of the sleeper portion.
