Antique 18K Solid Gold Victorian Enamel Sleeper Earrings, Vintage French Victorian Drop Earrings

These lovely antique Victorian drop earrings were hand crafted in the 19th century. They feature beautifully detailed red and blue enamel flowers with a simple blue frame. Common in 19th century jewelry, enameling involves fusing powdered glass to metal surfaces. The pieces were then carefully placed in a kiln and fired at high temperatures, causing the glass to melt. It is rare to find enameling which has not been compromised by age and use, making this a rare and stunning piece.

CONDITION NOTES:
The base of the hinges has been repaired and solder marks remain, visible in photos. Of course, this is not visible when worn. The repair also removed the hallmark from the hinge, but they have been tested for 18k gold which was the minimum standard for French jewelry.
