Antique Art Deco Sapphire and Diamond Cultured Pearl Necklace c. 1925

Antique Art Deco Sapphire and Diamond Cultured Pearl Necklace c. 1925

What could be more classic and chic than a pearl necklace? This lovely antique, art deco necklace features an 18k gold and platinum box clasp embedded with a natural sapphire and diamonds. The sapphire measures 5.5 x 4.8 mm and the diamonds range in size from 2.5-3 mm each. The clasp is held securely and also has the extra protection of a white gold security chain. The pearls themselves are early cultured pearls which have been strewn by hand in a lovely graduated pattern. Cultured pearls became widespread on the market by the 1920s and are real pearls that form when a small bead is inserted into an oyster or mussel. The nucleus is gradually coated with layers of nacre and is indistinguishable from a natural pearl to the naked eye.

CONDITION NOTES:
The clasp is in excellent condition but there is wear to the pearls which is consistent with age and use. As pearls are delicate, they will need to be handled with care and cannot be exposed to the chemicals in perfume or cleaned with soap. See photos and video for details.
