Intricate and refined, this romantic Art Nouveau pendant is made of quality 18k gold, which has been sculpted to resemble a vine inside a heart. As with many antique pieces, there remains a hidden symbolism with the choice of ivy. In France, this symbolism finds expression in the phrase "Je m'attache ou je meurs," which can be poetically translated as "I will cling to you or I will die." Three small garnets are embedded in the design to add a soft flicker of light. At the bottom, a fine pearl hangs, finishing the look. A creative and unique statement piece, this pendant is small but makes a big impression. The craftsmanship that goes into a piece like this is simply stunning, as you can see from photos how lifelike the goldsmith made the leaves without the use of modern machines.
CONDITION NOTES:
One of the ivy leaves has been soldered to the frame, visible in photos and the video. The back also has some separation of the frame but nothing which affects the stability or beauty of the piece. It has a condition consistent with age and use but will need to be treated with care, as all antiques do.
