This pretty cameo pendant is was crafted in the late 19th century. Often shell cameos were first roughly shaped by machines, and then skilled artists would carve the rest of the design. Inspired by classical antiquity, the finished products often emphasized elegance and femininity. Queen Victoria herself favored cameos, further cementing their popularity during the era. Today, Victorian cameos remain valued collectibles.

The frame of the locket is crafted from bronze, and the interior opens to reveal a hinged glass partition to protect a keepsake or photo. The locket closes securely and has weathered the years very well.
