Antique Early Victorian Pinchbeck Rolo Long Guard Chain
Antique Early Victorian Pinchbeck Rolo Long Guard Chain
This pretty long guard chain is crafted from pinchbeck. Pinchbeck jewelry was developed by Christopher Pinchbeck in the early 18th century and became popular in the Georgian and Victorian periods. An alloy of copper and zinc, it closely resembled gold but was more affordable. As gold-plating techniques improved, pichbeck's popularity waned, but it remains an excellent choice as most gold filled pieces gradually lose their gold plating, but pinchbeck still remains shiny and a convincing gold substitute. Featuring a round rolo chain, this necklace is classic and timeless.
CONDITION NOTES:
Some links have been oxidized with time but just need a good cleaning. We left the original patina as many antique lovers like the way the chains have aged and allow customers to clean to their preference. The lobster class is a gold filled later addition by a previous owner as the original pinchbeck clasp has been lost to time.
