Antique French 18K Solid Gold Locket Ring Dated 1849

This beautiful sentimental ring was crafted in the very early Victorian period and is engraved on the interior band with the date 15 Avril 1839. The ring contains a glass panel which guards a lock of braded hair. On the larger side, it likely belonged to a man, and considering the fine, blond locks, it could have been a mourning locket for a child gone before. Hair jewelry was a common form of mourning jewelry or sentimental jewelry used to honor a precious friendship or love. The ring has a tapered band which has been carefully engraved with delicate swirling leaves and is crafted from high quality 18k solid gold.

CONDITION NOTES:
Consistent with age and use, the ring has a chip to one corner of the glass due to age and use. It has not been visibly resized.
