Take a look at the original Instagram! This silver plated book pendant bears the words "souvenir" on the cover, French for "memories". It is also apt as it was used as a personal souvenir to remember a trip, or a gift for loved ones back at home. The inside opens to reveal a reel of pictures which could be shared with friends and family. This particular book pendant was made as a souvenir for a trip to Algeria and features photos of the Kabyle people, a Berber ethnic group from northern Algeria. Despite the pendants very old age, the photos remain in excellent condition and can be folded up, accordion style, to fit neatly inside. A piece of copper slides over the photos to protect them between the two book "covers". The outside of the pendant is more worn and has silver plate loss to the front and back, but this adds a lovely patina of time. The pendant was often worn on a long guard chain and does not have a bail, but looks lovely on a simple silver chain. A beautiful piece that perfectly captures a moment in time.
