Antique French Niello Victorian Silver Neckace Chain

This lovely silver niello chain is in excellent condition. Niello a technique in which a metal mixture is fired in a kiln to fill crevices in engraved silver. It is a centuries old technique that gained popularity in Europe towards the end of the 20th century. This lovely chain intersperses niello links and plain links, and comes in at the perfect length for a choker necklace at around 43 cm. It is more refined and delicate than most of the niello chains I've come across, making it an impressive yet understated piece. Niello is stronger and more durable than enamel and holds up over time very well. The niello on this piece is in excellent condition with many years left of use and the links have been inspected and are all very strong. The bolt ring is also in great shape with good alignment and tension.
