This antique locket was crafted during the Georgian era around 1820. A central glass is surrounded by a halo of enamel and natural seed pearls, which are original to the piece. As there is a small space between the opening "hatch" and the glass front, it can be filled with tiny gemstones to create a delicate “shaker locket,” or used to house a cherished memento. The enameling on the piece is worn in places and as the enameling is black, this was likely historically used as a mourning locket.
The pendant measures 32 x 22 x 7 mm (including the jump ring) and weighs 4.07 grams. It has been re-marked for sale as 14k gold.
CONDITION NOTES:
This locket is in good antique condition. All seed pearls are intact and appear to be original. The jump ring shows minor signs of wear but remains secure and ready to wear. Some of the enamel has worn in places, consistent with age and use. A timeless and sentimental piece, this locket is perfect for collectors or those seeking a meaningful heirloom with historic charm.
