This rare beauty is known as a "vinaigrette" locket. Delicate and refined, it features chiseled floral borders and blue enameling. It opens with a little door to reveal an interior pierced gallery panel behind which a piece of scented cloth could be tucked to revive the wearer in case of fainting or to mask unpleasant doors. This one dates all the way back to the late Georgian period, circa 1830. As they are light weight with several hinges, few have survived the passage of time, so this is a wonderful find indeed and would make a lovely addition or the astute collector.
CONDITION NOTES:
Light enamel loss to one petal on the pendant front. The locket closes well but will need to be treated with care due to age.
