Antique Gold Filled Art Nouveau Drapery Necklace c. 1900

Antique Gold Filled Art Nouveau Drapery Necklace c. 1900

This lovely Art Nouveau drapery necklace was crafted around 1900 from thick and high quality gold fill. Gold-filled jewelry, unlike solid gold, consists of a thick layer of gold bonded to a base metal, making it more affordable while maintaining a luxurious appearance. Known as a drapery necklace, as the chain drapes gracefully against the collar bone, the chain showcases the movement's signature flowing lines and nature-inspired motifs. A central trumpet flower is flanked by holly. Holly was seen as a protector bringing good luck to the wearer.

CONDITION NOTES:
There is light gold fill loss, most visibly to the clasp, and connecting links. The chain remains in excellent antique condition, however. Lightweight and very wearable, it is a beautiful piece.
