Antique Guilloche Engine Turned Enamel Locket, Hand Painted Floral Locket c. 1920

This beautifully refined and sweet guilloche hand-painted locket is striking in every way. The intricate engine turned pattern shimmers softly in the light and is finished with small, hand painted pink roses in a wreath which hanging beneath a blue ribbon tied in bows. The reverse is likewise beautifully decorated with a guilloche wavy pattern in a repeating circle. Set in a round, silver frame the locket closes and opens from the top very securely. Inside you can find two original photos of a husband and a wife secured under a gold gilt frame. The interior of the locket has a soft golden glow from the vermeil overlay. Likely Swiss in origin, it is hallmarked with a weevil in a rectangle frame for imported silver. It is a very beautiful and unique piece that shows excellent craftsmanship of a bygone era.

CONDITION NOTES:
Very good antique condition. There is some light interior tarnish which is visible in photos and stands as a a testament to the history of the piece. The locket closes securely with a click. The locket has a piece of enamel missing on the back, to the top right of the closure. It is no noticeable as the silver of the underlay doesn't contrast strongly to the blue of the enamel. It looks like a clean break, with no risk of further loss as long as the locket is treated with care. As enamel is essentially glass, it is important not to drop or otherwise apply strong pressure to any part of the enameling or it can crack or break.
