Antique Platinum and 18K Gold Old European Cut Diamond Art Deco Trembleuse Earrings c. 1920
Antique Platinum and 18K Gold Old European Cut Diamond Art Deco Trembleuse Earrings c. 1920
These classic and timeless earrings are crafted from high quality platinum and yellow gold. The setting of the earrings is platinum over yellow gold, which is crafted in such a way to enhance the natural shine of the diamonds and make them appear bigger when worn. This style is classically Art Deco and features a line of two diamonds. The top diamond is a rose cut measuring approximately 1.5 mm, with a lower suspended old European cut measuring approximately 3 mm. This style is known as a "trembleuse" as it allows the bottom stone to move freely, capturing the light and attention of all who gaze upon it. The earrings are small enough to wear comfortably throughout the day. Commanding attention, these beautiful earrings are not only a versatile ornament for everyday wear, they are a piece of history which has been passed carefully through the ages.
CONDITION NOTES:
The earrings are in overall excellent condition with strong hinges and a good latch. The stones are clear with little wear to the facets under magnification. The platinum has worn down in some areas, with yellow gold showing underneath. This was an interesting method in which yellow gold was topped with platinum after it became more expensive following the second world war and needed to be preserved.
