Antique Sapphire Paste and Diamond 14K Solid Gold Margeurite Daisy Pompadour Ring, Victorian Belle Epoque Engagement Ring

This pretty early 1900s French ring features a sapphire paste stone set in a halo of ten diamonds. The sapphire paste has a typical cobalt blue, beautifully complemented by the bright glitter of the diamonds. Each diamond measures approximately 1.5 mm across while the sapphire paste measures approximately 4 x 3.8 x 3 mm. Paste is a gemstone substitute made from glass. It is much softer and therefore will need to be worn with a certain level of care.

The ring showcases a unique twist on a classic French design. Often with these pieces the diamonds were set in a white metal, such as platinum, to help reflect the light around the diamonds and enhance their brilliance. The ring, found at a reputable estate seller, bears an eagle head hallmarks for 18k gold, as well as the number 14. The ring face measures 8.9 mm by 8 mm, with a height of 5 mm off the finger.

CONDITION NOTES:
There are bubbles in the paste and nibbles to the facet, typical of paste but only visible under magnification.
