Antique Silver Forget me Not Black Enamel Mourning Locket, XIX century locket

Antique Silver Forget me Not Black Enamel Mourning Locket, XIX century locket

Sweetly sentimental, this antique mourning locket was created in the mid-1800s to store a token of those gone before. On the front a forget-me-not flower is beautifully inlaid into black enamel and surrounded by small seed pearls. Victorians loved symbolism and the pearls were representative of tears while the forget-me-not flower urged the wearer to remember their loved one. The back is smooth and the interior features two sides which can be used to secure a photo. The frame of the locket is sterling silver and the craftsmanship is both important and . The locket closes very well with a strong hinge.

CONDITION NOTES:
The locket is in very good condition for age. There looks to have been a small chip to the enamel close to the closure which was painted over with black nail polish or something similar to hide the enamel loss by a previous owner. It's not obvious or visible when worn and it's necessary to look closely to notice. There is also a small chip to the enameling on the bail, not visible when worn. Check photos and video for details.
