Antique Victorian 18k Solid Gold Diamond Pendant Earrings with Tassels
Antique Victorian 18k Solid Gold Diamond Pendant Earrings with Tassels
The pendant drops feature foxtail tassels which are capped with a little ball. Interestingly, one pendant bottom appears to asymmetrical while the other is even, a little quirk of time. The pendant bottoms have a domed top with light enameling, mostly lost to time, and four small ruby paste cabochons.
The top of the tassel is hallmarked with an eagle head and an owl with a 75 hallmark on the belly for the Paris assay office. The top sleeper portions are slightly yellower in color than the drops with no visible hallmark, but acid test as 18k gold, standard for the period. The diamonds are securely prong sent and in excellent condition with no scratches or chips under magnification.
Once adoring the ears of a fashionable woman in high society, they are bold enough to turn heads and light enough to wear comfortably all day long.
CONDITION NOTES:
The biggest condition note is that one earring has oxydation from time over the tassels, visible in photos and videos. I like to retain the antique patina where possible but this can be removed on request. There is also a small tear in the gold, visible in photo ten, but which does not affect the stability of the piece as the tassels are very securely held in place by a disk on the underside of the dome top. It isn't visible when worn and is unable to be repaired as the gold is thin and the heat would melt the rest of the area.
Material: 18k Gold, (owl hallmark)
Weight: 6.52 g (together)
Period: Victorian
Size: 1.5" x 0.3" or 4 cm x 0.8 cm
