These lovely earrings are crafted in the Etruscan Revival style. They date from around 1880 and are hallmarked with an eagle head for solid 18k gold. Each earring features a central, romantic forget-me-not floral motif set with blue enamel. The circular plaques are finished with articulated tapered drops, decorated with additional blue enamel detailing. The Etruscan Revival drew on motifs and techniques associated with ancient Italian jewelry and the earrings retain their original period construction and show the fine handwork typical of late 19th-century French jewelry. The warm tone of the 18k gold contrasts with the blue enamel, giving the design a defined graphic quality. The earrings close with an early lever-back closure designed to thread through the back of the ear and attach at a rivet at the top. This style can take some getting used to initially but the hinges are in good condition and hold the earrings securely.
CONDITION NOTES:
There is some wear to the enameling, visible in photos and the video. There are also some areas where the gold has worn thing on the front of the circular plaques in one earring. I've tried to take a close up in the last shot.
