Art Nouveau French Silver Powderbox Pendant, Antique French Prudent QUITTE Locket c. 1890

Art Nouveau French Silver Powderbox Pendant, Antique French Prudent QUITTE Locket c. 1890

This lovely Iris powder box pendant bears the hallmark of renowned Parisian silversmith Prudent QUITTE, known for the production of Art Nouveau silver jewelry and cutlery. While the shop was first registered in 1882, this beauty was likely crafted around 1890. Irises were a popular Art Nouveau motif, using flowing natural forms and the beauty inherent around us. The back is similarly decorated with a floral repousse work, so the locket is beautiful from all angles. A split ring bail has been later added, allowing you to slide the pendant onto a silver chain or hook it onto a long guard. Hallmarked on the rim with two boar's heads, the pendant is minimum 800 silver purity, standard at the time for French work.

CONDITION NOTES:
As a testament to its age and history, the mirror inside the powderbox shows light foxing, adding character and authenticity to this vintage piece. This minor imperfection is a reminder of the passage of time and lends a unique charm to your pendant. The bail was also added later as it looks like a piece was pierced into the top of the pendant and then soldered, visible in photos. It hold securely and will keep you treasures safely stored.
