This charming and adorable Art Nouveau heart locket is from the late 19th or early 20th century. Acid tested for silver and featuring two hallmarks on the bail, this locket has lovely engraved repouse floral work on the front and a smooth reverse for engraving or personalization. It was originally vermeil, with a gold wash covering the silver. Now most of the gold has worn, but some remains behind the floral design, helping the features stand out. It's impressive to see the craftsmanship of the time, as it must have taken a skilled hand to expertly carve such tiny details into the silver. Look at the veins in the leaves for an example of such precision and skill. The locket does not close with a snap but does not open when worn. A very beautiful and unique piece of history.
