Art Nouveau Silver Powder Box Pendant, Antique Pill Box Pendant, XIX century French locket
Art Nouveau Silver Powder Box Pendant, Antique Pill Box Pendant, XIX century French locket
This silver Art Nouveau powder box pendant wears its age with pride. Featuring two crossed torches extending on both sides of a central cartouche which is crowned with a bow, it is replete with Victorian symbolism. The crossed torches, with an extending flame, were meant to symbolize eternal life while bows were seen as a symbol of love. The central cartouche has been left empty for engraving or personalization. Inside the powder box pendant the original mirror can be found, which has been heavily foxed with time. It now stands as a testament to the history of the piece. The sides of the pendant which have been soldered together have started to slightly separate, visible in photo four, and there is no longer a tight seal when the pendant closes. All of these are normal signs of age and wear which do not affect the usability of the piece and are a reminder of just how many hands this lovely pendant has crossed through the ages.
