C. MURAT Antique Silver Filigree Half Guard Chain, French Fancy Chain c. 1900
C. MURAT Antique Silver Filigree Half Guard Chain, French Fancy Chain c. 1900
This lovely French chain made of high quality, shiny 800-900 silver, hallmarked on the end ring with a crab in photo eight along with a maker's mark C.M, for the famed French silver smith Charles Murat who was particularly active in the Art Nouveau period. A historic piece by one of the most well-known silversmiths of the era, it features beautiful navette links with filigree center detail joined by lengths of belcher chain. It was most likely shortened from a longer sautoir or muff chain at some point in the past. The condition is excellent with no missing detail or wear to the links. It closes with a spring ring at the neck that has good alignment and tension.
