Heavy and luxurious, this impressive chain was crafted circa 1880. The only thing more glamorous than one string of solid French gold is two or three strands of French gold chains draped elegantly around your neck. Each link whispers tales of centuries past, embodying the timeless allure that has made gold a currency for millennia.
Through time, often long guards such as this were cut down to make smaller chains. This was in part to accommodate changing styles, but was especially the case for families with multiple daughters who would divide chains to fairly allocate family heirlooms. As a result it become quite rare to find a heavy gold chain in its original length and form. This heavy long guard boasts an impressive 48 grams and comes in at over 60", allowing for endless styling possibilities. The lozenge links measure 6 mm x 14 mm and are connected by double belcher chain. Creating a lovely impression and draping you in decadent, buttery old gold this one-of-a-kind long guard chain will become your favorite staple.
CONDITION NOTES:
The chain is in excellent condition for age. Usually with time some of the interior beads become loose or lost but all interior spheres remain intact. The chain has some areas of oxidation and some areas which have less patina than others which adds an interesting visual element. It is subtle and stands as a testament to the story and history of the piece. If you have an eagle eye, you might spot that one link of belcher chain has been replaced for a solid, unsoldered link.
