Sad and sweet all at once, this etched silver swallow locket tells a story deeply personal but also universal. Swallows were a symbol of fidelity and love, typically gifted to a loved one before a journey or period of separation to give a promise of safe return. Inside, a soldier can be seen wearing a WWI uniform. It seems likely that since the photo was never updated or changed he was never able to fulfill his promise, but his love kept his photo preciously and carefully so that now he is gone but not forgotten over one hundred years later. While jewelry cannot talk, the stories they tell often transcends words.
