Lucky Vintage 18K Solid Gold Horseshoe Locket with White Sapphire Stones c. 1930

Lucky Vintage 18K Solid Gold Horseshoe Locket with White Sapphire Stones c. 1930

This charming brooch proves good things come in small packages. Dating to the inter-war period, this lovely little horseshoe brooch is crafted from solid 18k gold with platinum accents and embedded with old European cut white sapphires. Long considered a symbol of good luck, horseshoes often hung above doors to ward off evil spirits and bring prosperity. This belief dates back to ancient times, rooted in folklore and superstition. The iron used to make horseshoes was believed to repel fairies and other mythical creatures. Additionally, the horseshoe’s crescent shape resembles the protective, waxing moon. For maximum luck, the horseshoe is traditionally hung with its ends pointing upward, to hold in good fortune.
