Silver Art Deco Lucky Horseshoe Locket c. 1920
Silver Art Deco Lucky Horseshoe Locket c. 1920
This lovely silver locket comes from the Art Deco period and features a unique horse shoe shape. Long considered a symbol of good luck, horseshoes often hung above doors to ward off evil spirits and bring prosperity. This belief dates back to ancient times, rooted in folklore and superstition. The iron used to make horseshoes was believed to repel fairies and other mythical creatures. Additionally, the horseshoe’s crescent shape resembles the protective, waxing moon. The locket opens from the side and contains two original photos and frames, including one of a baby. The locket has passed gently through the years and is looking for it's next custodian.
