Silver Art Nouveau Paste Pendant Brooch c. 1900

Silver Art Nouveau Paste Pendant Brooch c. 1900

This lovely Art Nouveau paste brooch is crafted from high quality silver inlaid with magnificent paste, cut in the old mine style that was popular during the Victorian era as a pre-cursor to the modern round brilliant cut. Paste is a diamond substitute, made from leaded class, which was often still cut by an experienced lapidary and used in antique jewelry. As you can see, the craftsmanship was incredibly done. I love how the silver flows, and reaches over and under different areas of the pendant. Two holes which have been soldered to the back of the brooch so that the piece can be worn as a pendant but you will need a very small bail to thread through the small holes. Alternatively, you can wear the piece as a brooch or clip it as a pendant to a length of satin or velvet, as pictured. Beware, while the brooch has a rudimentary safety clasp you'll likely need to be careful not to make any sudden movements, especially if worn close to the neck. It would also be possible to find an old watch chain with two spring ring clasps which you could clip to the pendant rings.

CONITION NOTES:
The piece is versatile and in excellent condition. There is some light wear under the facets of the paste, consistent with age and use.
