These delicately crafted earrings are well over 100 years old! They were created around 1880 from rosy 14k gold. The hallmark from the earrings has been worn with time but they were sold to me as 14k and have been acid tested to verify. Each earring features a magnificent rock crystal, cut in the old mine style that was popular during the Victorian era as a pre-cursor to the modern round brilliant cut. Rock crystal is a clear quartz which was often still cut by an experienced lapidary and used as an imitation diamond in antique jewelry.
Their design, with a strong latch that attaches at the top, ensures they stay securely in place. This style is for pierced ears and requires the wearer to thread the hinge through the back of the earlobe to attach to a rivet at the top of the earring. It does take some getting used to at first but they hold securely once you've mastered hooking them. The delicate detailing on the rose gold settings adds a touch of vintage opulence to these already captivating pieces.

The earrings are in very good antique condition with strong hinges and a secure latch. The rock crystal has light wear to the facets under magnification but nothing eye visible. Light micro-scratches and oxidization consistent with age and use.
