Victorian 18K Gold Large Shaker Locket, Antique French Gold and Beveled Glass Shaker Locket

So named because they were originally used to carry loose gemstones which would 'shake' as the wearer moved, this shaker locket is a sight to behold. The frame has been crafted from a rich, buttery 18K gold and is hallmarked with an owl on the bail. The panel on the front of the shaker locket is easily opened and closed with a well functioning hinge and makes a satisfying 'snap' when shut. The glass on the piece is in impeccable condition with a light beveled edge and no notable scratches. I found no repairs, but some gold loss to the frame and weathering of time, all consistent with age and wear. You can be creative about what you would like to store inside: gemstones, a pressed flower from a wedding bouquet, a piece of lace from a baptism. The locket is deep enough to be able to hold something unusual, or would look lovely on its own as well. These tend to be in demand and go fast as they are very difficult to find in such excellent condition nowadays. A beautiful piece of history which has been a guardian of memories for over 100 years.
