Victorian Heart Rose Cut Diamond and Turquoise 18k Ring, Antique French 1800s Floral Engagement Ring, Turquoise and Diamond Halo Ring
Victorian Heart Rose Cut Diamond and Turquoise 18k Ring, Antique French 1800s Floral Engagement Ring, Turquoise and Diamond Halo Ring
This stunning turquoise cluster ring features a central rose cut diamond from the Victorian era. Rare and expensive, diamonds were cut to maximize their surface area by using a domed sliver which was cut by hand to bring out the diamond's best features. Designed to sparkle and shine under the low light of candles and gas lamps, they are difficult to judge by modern standards but have all of the charm of the ages. This one in particular is cut in an interesting way as it resembles a heart, making a whimsical and romantic engagement ring. The diamond is securely set in a high crown with seven silver prongs as it was typical of the period to use a white metal for the gemstone settings. The lovely central diamond is surrounded by eight turquoise cabochons and set in a simple 18k gold split shank. The hallmark has been worn with time but verified by an acid test and is the standard for French jewelry.
