Victorian Silver Niello Locket with Vermeil Interior, Antique French XIX Century Locket

Victorian Silver Niello Locket with Vermeil Interior, Antique French XIX Century Locket

This breathtaking silver niello locket is adored with a beautiful flowing leaf pattern and a lovely interior vermeil gold wash. Niello is a technique in which a material, often silver, is engraved and filled with a mixture of sulphur, copper, silver, and lead. After being fired in a kiln the niello mixture melts and fills in the crevices, leaving a lovely matte design. This particular locket is in good age related condition but wears signs of its age. The interior glass partition has been broken, leaving only the pivot frame. There is still space to store photos on each side or to place a keepsake. The locket has one notable dent to the back, visible in photos, but these imperfections are a testament to the locket's age and render it even more unique. A very sought after piece that would be perfect for the antique lover in your life, or yourself.
