Victorian Silver Photo Locket, French Mourning Locket c. 1870
Victorian Silver Photo Locket, French Mourning Locket c. 1870
This impressive and substantial Victorian silver locket is beautifully shiny and in excellent antique condition. Featuring an identical front and reverse with a repeating vertical twisted silver pattern, it is a lovely example of craftsmanship of the time. In the middle lies a glass partition, common in France but difficult to find elsewhere, which swings back and forth between sides and can be used to store a picture or special memory. Hallmarked with a boar's head on the bail, the locket is between 800-900 silver purity as guaranteed by the Paris assay office. This locket closes with a very satisfying snap and has no notable signs of wear. It looks perfect hanging on a long guard chain.
