Victorian Vermeil Locket with Starburst, Seed Pearls, and Enamel design
We do love a good mystery! How did this lovely Victorian locket travel through time from Newark, New Jersey to Southern France? The back is inscribed "To N. King from her Newark friends -1879". We wonder if the locket was a parting gift before Ms. King traveled away from home to start a new life across the sea. The locket features a very lovely starburst design on the front, with set seed pearls, and framed with dark blue enamel. One of the seed pearls has been replaced and there is very light damage to the enamel, but nothing noticeable. The frame is beautifully engraved. In the interior the locket has lost one glass frame to time, but the other remains in good condition to store a treasured picture or memory. The locket is large, as Victorian aesthetic lockets tended to be, and would certainly make an impression.
