Vintage 18K Solid Gold Art Deco Tank Ring c. 1940
Vintage 18K Solid Gold Art Deco Tank Ring c. 1940
Sturdy with great geometry, this chunky "tank" ring was crafted around 1940. Popular in the early to mid 20th century, this style was inspired by the heavy, industrial aesthetic of military tank designs, with a focus on strength and durability. This piece is unique because it marries the delicate, flowing lines of the early 20th century with the impressiveness of the tank aesthetic.
A ribbon of white gold, inlaid with sixteen paste stones, runs across the middle of the band to complete the look. Paste stones were a common diamond substitute, especially in the wartime period and immediately after. Paste stones were glass stones cut to look like real diamonds. The paste stones in the ring are in excellent condition with surprisingly little wear to the facets. They have been mostly protected by the white gold prongs holding them securely in place.
The back band has been hallmarked with an owl, guaranteeing at least 18k gold, for works imported into France or marked for re-sale if the original mark was worn down or removed during resizing.
CONDITION NOTES:
There are some micro-scratches to the gold, consistent with age and use. The ring does not have any visible re-sizing marks. The paste stones are in very good condition for age.
