Vintage Clasped Hand Fede Gimmel Ring, Vintage Sterling Silver Ring

Vintage Clasped Hand Fede Gimmel Ring, Vintage Sterling Silver Ring

This lovely ring is a combination of two very interesting traditions. It is both a fede and a gimmel ring. Fede rings, originating in ancient Roman times, feature two clasped hands symbolizing loyalty, trust, and unity. Popular in medieval Europe as betrothal or wedding rings, their name comes from the Italian "mani in fede" (hands in faith). In addition to the clasped fede ring, this ring is also a gimmel ring. Coming from the Latin for twin, gemmelus, the ring was constructed to be worn by separately by fiancees during the engagement period and then joined together to form one band for the wedding. This lovely ring has three separate pieces, as the two hands hide the third band, a romantic heart.

CONDITION NOTES:
As this is a puzzle ring, it would be very difficult to have it re-sized. As such, please check your ring size carefully before placing the order. The ring is slightly delicate from age and use, so make sure to treat it with care. It has light tarnish which we have left as a testament to its authenticity.
